So many people leaving the country and coming back from abroad this summer.  One day, I want to be one of those people.  Until that day, I'm lucky to have so many amazing, well-traveled friends in my life to recount all their overseas stories.

When was the last time you cooked for yourself? What did you make?

Last weekend was red sauce extravaganza.  We made a huge pot of sauce on Saturday and proceeded to consume Italian food in all forms all weekend and into the beginning of the week.  On Sunday night, we made eggplant parmesan, which was quite delicious.

Fabulous but overaccessorized.

At a distance, she doesn't look so bad. However, let me explain all the accessories she had on:

1. Sunglasses on her head
2. Regular glasses on her face
3. Giant gold dangly earrings
4. Butterfly top with cut-outs at the neck
5. Gold Necklace
6. Gold watch on her left hand
7. Gold bangles on her right hand
8. Gold stretch belt
9. High-end designer handbag
10. 4 gold rings (that I could count)

If your accessories outnumber the number of items you're wearing, it's probably too much.

Accessorizing in moderation is the key.

What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

This is the view of the fence I'm watching. I can't believe Darrell is building this all by himself. I'm in awe.

One of my biggest fears is going deaf. When the ringing in my ears started geting deafening about 5 years ago, I went to the doctor to try and figure it all out. I was terrified that I was sufering from tinitis and beginning to lose my hearing. As it turns out, I was suffering from allergies. However, they did discover that I'd lost about 85% of my hearing already. So, I vigilently wear earplugs to all shows now. No exceptions--no matter how uncool I look.

Bar lamps

The house officially looks the way we want save for a few things that are either needing to be installed or that the contractor needs to have changed. I can't believe it. After 13 months, we are very, very close. The worst part of seeing the house almost complete is that I want to start moving all my stuff in, but can't. Did I mention we're really, really close to completion?? Yea!

Last night, Darrell and I had dinner with 6 highly successful artists, all of whom work full-time at their art and make loads of money.  They travel around the world to all their various shows and wear amazing shoes.  Ordinarily, I wouldn't find this type of evironment intimidating, but what struck me the most about all of them is how genuinely happy they all were--blissfully unaware of what day of the week it was and talking about all the interesting things they see and do.  Their work is rewarding in all levels.  It affords them the time and money to lead this very appealing life.  Kitchen seems boring?  Kitchen make-over.  Obscure Japanese horror films?  Seen them all.  Visiting your new show in Hong Kong? Not a problem.

There are moments, like last night, where taking the safest path life offered me makes me regret not taking any risks, ever...Don't get me wrong.  I feel secure, even in this tough economic climate, but, for the first time, I'm feeling a bit stiffled by my safe decisions.

Lights on Tampa 091
Originally uploaded by carmensutra1975

Saturday night, we all went to check out the Lights on Tampa arts display. It was a beautiful evening, filled with unexpected beauty on typically boring or ignored buildings. We walked all through Downtown and then from the Ice Palace to Channelside and then through part of the Channelside district. I posted all photos to my Flickr page.

I would have to say that one of the best parts for me was posing with this guy, dressed as Obi Wan Kenobi with the movie replica Light Saber and the moving, beeping R2D2. It was so rad to swing that thing around. I sort of wish I knew this guy and could go over to his house to play with all his cool Star Wars memoribilia...

Mini HS reunion on Saturday night totaly ruled.  We had a delicious Thai dinner while catching up.  Here we are after dinner...

Then we went downtown to a pseudo hip place for drinks and appetizers.  I realize we're working backwards, but it worked out just fine for us.

We then trekked, on foot, across downtown to another Pub where my friend Brent was performing.  On the way, we stopped and checked out the cool public light displays and paid tribute to the late, great Eddie Caballero.

Finally, we ended up seeing Brent perform.  Unfortunately, my hired photographer for the evening, spent the entire performance outside smoking.   To catch all the photos, check out my Flickr Page @ www.flickr.com/photos/carmensutra/

She was embarking on a cruise on Sunday morning with her friend Ken (he wants more, she doesn't). We took them to the Mai Kai for dinner on Saturday night and, boy, did we have fun. I wish we could have visted longer, as I only get to see her once every 2-3 years, but, alas, the memories of our night at the tiki bar...

I'd never heard anything like that before. To add to that, they write lyrics like these in 'Lover's Spit.'

All these people drinking lover's spit
They sit around and clean their face with it
And they listen to teeth to learn how to quit
tied to a night they never met

You know it's time
that we grow old and do some shit
I like it all that way

All these people drinking lover's spit
Swallowing words while giving head
They listen to teeth to learn how to quit

You know it's time
that we grow old and do some shit
I like it all that way
